Being Unique is Better than Being Perfect!

Today's blog post has us really thinking about this word:

Many times we go through our day teaching/working without thinking of the special touches that we make on the day and the things that are distinctive about ourselves. It may be our laugh, it may be our clarity in difficult situations, our ability to juggle multiple tasks at the same time or our kindness and warmth to each and every student. What do you consider unique about your teaching?

My adventurous spirit impels me to take risks in the classroom. And for that I believe that my students are pretty engaged (or at the very least provided with multiple opportunities for engagement!). This could be a new approach, a new website I found, a new piece of technology or an idea I just came up with at 5 in the morning. I will try anything once, and I think this keeps my teaching fresh. Because I believe that if I am bored in my own classroom, then surely the students must be bored, so let's change things up a little! After 25 years of teaching, I am proud to say that I do not have old approaches, teaching styles or ideas!

You know how Carl Fredricksen never lost his adventurous spirit  in the movie Up ? That's how I will be as well when I reach 78!

What individual gifts do you have that you bring to your teaching, your students, your colleagues and the world?

  2. Being unique is what makes every person’s story worth telling. On SimoneKnego.com, Simone reminds us that we don’t need to be someone else to make an impact — we just need to be ourselves. Her journey shows that true confidence comes from embracing who you are, not from fitting into expectations or comparisons. Being unique means accepting your strengths, your flaws, and the experiences that have shaped you. It’s about recognizing that what makes you different is also what makes you powerful. Simone teaches that when we share our authentic selves, we give others permission to do the same. The world doesn’t need another perfect person; it needs real people willing to show up honestly. By celebrating your individuality, you create connection, purpose, and change — simply by being you.
