Reflective Teacher at TeachThought- November Blog Challenge- Day 2

One small delight in my day that I look forward to is meeting my Lunch Time Buddies. This is a group of teachers from the various school departments that gather in the teacher cafeteria to eat their lunch every day. Every year it varies a little with different people, but the core of teachers taking time to actually go down and eat lunch at a table with others is mostly the same. I love them because they are always a spirited crew and those whom I consider members of my York Family! From talk of politics, to what's going on in their garden this season, the chatter and companionship always re-energizes me and brings me down from that ledge on difficult days.

So here's to Tom and stories from middle school, Kathy and talk of the lake house, Max and endless collection of articles he reads, Tim and his proud talk of the Japanese garden (which sounds like an oasis!), Robin and her love of books, Rich and his repertoire of bad childhood television shows, Jeff for random science facts, Mark for his dry wit and Dustin to always say the thing that no one would ever dare say.

These and many others ground me to what is one of the most important things in life-connecting with others to support, laugh and learn from them. Thank you dear amigos!

  1. Similar . . . but smaller scale. We all have different schedules, so my daily dose of "buddy time" is random. Quick. A mix of water-cooler talk (Didja see Freakshow last night? Keeping up with How to Get Away with Murder?"), commiserating about grading, and sharing teaching ideas. Thanks for reminding me to appreciate my teaching buddies.

  2. I also look forward every day to relaxing with my lunch buddies. Sorry you aren't on my crew this year. Glad we got a chance to catch up last week.

  3. That's one thing I miss about not being at school at the moment. Connecting with other teachers on a personal level builds strong teams and is an important time out. Good reminder!
